Fabulous Halloween Costumes

It's Halloween Time!!!

Halloween is the only holiday when people can truly be as creative as they want and not be judged. Halloween costumes are fun and can easily be bought at any costume or party store, but those selections are limited when it comes to creativity. Also, there is not a variety of costumes in plus size. I like to opt for creating my own looks with things that may be around the house, and things that may be used everyday.

DO NOT WEAR THAT BAG GIRL!

It is time to let those summer accessories go and introduce our personal fall favorites into our wardrobes, but trying to decide what to splurge on and what not to can be challenging. There are so many trendy pieces to choose from, so we want to be careful and not splurge on items that are seasonal.

I am a fashion girl on a budget myself, but I am also a strong believer in having good quality statement pieces. Some fashion girls like to focus on their shoes or jewelry, but my favorite are handbags. I have a few bags that are considered "better" bags, but most are "moderate". This past summer I wanted a handbag that was functional, large enough to fit my laptop and camera in, and also a bright fun summer color. That lead me to Dillards, which is the most upscale department store we have here in Baton Rouge, I found this large BCBGeneration bright neon pink tote bag that had adjustable sides that can be extended. This bag is synthetic leather and has two sets of straps.

So... What should my next bag be?

When bag shopping It is important to choose a bag that best suits your personal style and lifestyle. Although oversized bags are a huge trend, I recommend that you choose a bag that compliments you size and figure. For my curvy ladies tote bags and satchels are a go to compliment any look whether you are dressed casual or business casual.

FROM TOP LEFT TO RIGHT:
River Island Quilted tote, Danielle Nicole Adeline Satchel bag, Asos leather scallop edge shopper bag,
Asos leather look bag, Asos leather fringe tote, and Asos leather bowler bag

So far these are some of my favorites! Which one should I pick?

Worst Dress Ever! 2013 Emmy Awards

2013 Emmy Awards Fashion Review

Happy First Official Day of FALL! It is a beautiful day to talk fashion and all things beautiful. Last night was the 65th Annual Emmy Award Show. If you did not watch last nights show, the red carpet events and the show were filled with very talented men and women from some of our favorite television shows. There were big winners form shows like Breaking Bad and Modern Family who had a great night, and of course last night was a big night for the fashion community. All eyes were on celebrities to see who wore what and who wore it best.

Here are some of my best and worst...

Worst Dressed?

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
Lena Dunham in Prada, Connie Britton in Naeem Khan,
 Aubrey Plaza in Marios Schwab,
 and january Jones in Givenchy

I did not absolutely hate theses dresses, but it is safe to say that they definitely left me scratching my head in confusion. Representing for my curvy girls was Lena Dunham wearing Prada. This dress was a pretty full skirt dress with bold florals and spaghetti straps, but it just did not do anything for her figure. Also, her styling was not good. I liked her pixie hair cut, but the makeup was off! She had way too much color on her eyes, it was too distracting.

Connie Britton wore a velvet green Naeem Khan dress with gold appliqué. This is one of those dresses I think would look better in person than in photos. She was styled beautifully and I actually like the dress, it just did not wow me. I guess...

Aubrey Plaza Emmy's look was interesting. She wore a Marios Schwab gown that I liked. The dress was a black sheer long sleeved dress with black trim accross the bodice and jewes on the collar and sleeves. The only thing I would say is the bodice on the dress was a tad bit distracting, it made her chest look weird. Otherwise, I love this particular designer and the dress!

January Jones dress was also very pretty. She wore Givenchy in the very popular vintage pink color with a detailed lace skirt, thick trim on the bottom of the skirt, and a strapless bodice. Also, her glam hair style did not compliment her dress well at all.

Best Dressed?

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
Julie Bowen in Zac Posen, Heidi Klum in Versace,
 Kerry Washington in Marchesa,
and Mindy Kaling in Georges Chakra

First of all I wanna say this color pallette of dresses are amazing! Julie Bowen wore one of my favorite designers Zac Posen. She looked beautiful in this pink trumpet layered ruffled skirt and ruffled sleeves. Her look was completed with minimum accessories and hair pulled back.

Model Heidi Klum wore a cranberry sequined Versace gown with a fitted high standing band collar that goes down center front of the bodice. She also had great styling.

Kerry Washington was a show stopper as always. She stood out in a powder pink Marchesa gown that had white and gold floral detailing along the skirt and bodice. She is one who has completely distinguished herself as fashionable and owns every bit of it.

Mindy Kaling looked great in Georges Chakra last night with this deep purple gown with interesting details around her neckline. She was also styled great. Her hair and makeup was simple and to the point.

NYFW Spring 2014 Review

Now that New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 is over, lets talk about the trends.

There were so many beautiful looks on this years runways. Some that we've seen the past few years and newer ones, but they all were innovative and inspiring!

Spring color palettes varied. We saw some deep rich colors from designers like Marc Jacobs, who's line was punk influenced, and others like DKNY and Oscar de la Renta who's runway was filled with vibrant spring traditional colors.

African Wardrobe Day at Church

The last Sunday in February at my church (Oasis Christian Church) was African day!! Members and guests were encouraged to wear African attire in respect to Black History Month! So, I decided to create African inspired looks by using inspiration from different countries using prints and colors.

I am a strong believer of transitional pieces so I decided to create my own looks than to go out and by a costume that I would only wear once.

With that being said, below are some example of separates that are fashionable and gives a modern spin on African historic styles. By using mixed prints and textures together with other patterns gives options of pieces that can be worn on a daily basis and are not just for costume.

Printed Separates Examples:

My Shopping Experience:

My mom and I went to Dillards discount store and found some pieces that we liked. We both spent less than $20 on our outfits! :)

Here is a close up on the prints my mom and I decided to mix...
